The Multi-Tool in No Man’s Sky does a lot of things, but it’s primarily a weapon. In fact, it can morph into different weapons on the fly. Some of these armaments are much more powerful while others serve as tools and are more useful than anything. Let’s take a look at the ten best Multi-Tool weapons in No Man’s Sky by rank.
10. Mining Beam
We put the Mining Beam on our list because of how often we really use it. It’s by no means our favorite, but it’s undoubtedly super practical, which is why it’s made the cut. Not only are you able to extract resources from different nodes, but you can even use the Multi-Tool against enemies in a pinch. At the end of the day, you’ll find that this is the Multi-Tool weapon you’ll be using the most.
9. Geology Cannon
We like the Geology Cannon because of its huge explosion on impact. It isn’t as precise, which is why it’s so low on the list. However, the damage it makes is enough to bypass that altogether. As you upgrade it, the damage and blast radius increase. Considering that, there’s a good chance you’ll be searching for Unstable Plasma just to recharge it. In our experience, we found that it saves a lot of excavation time if you’re able to blow a hole into the ground quickly.
8. Plasma Launcher
When you go up against Sentinel Quads and Sentinel Walkers, you’ll be lucky to have the Plasma Launcher Multi-Tool. It’s often referred to as a kind of grenade launcher and can fire 20 times if fully charged. When upgraded, the gun will even increase the number of bounces it does before it explodes. We don’t think it’s practical in fast-paced combat, but it’s worth upgrading if you like to physically see the damage that you’re dealing.
7. Paralysis Mortar
The Paralysis Mortar is also a sort of grenade launcher, like the Plasma Launcher. When the projectiles explode, they launch an electrical kind of energy that stuns enemies. Like the Plasma Launcher and Geology Cannon, it also requires Unstable Plasma to use. It’s low on our list because it doesn’t deal any damage beyond stunning. However, stunning both living and robotic entities around you can come in handy at times.
6.Boltcaster
The Boltcaster is a really general weapon for the Multi-Tool. In fact, it’s the first weapon that you’ll know how to craft at the beginning of your adventure. Unlike the Mining Beam, it’s both practical and highly dangerous. It uses Projectile Ammunition and is comparable to an assault rifle. When upgrading it, you can increase the damage, magazine size, and even the accuracy. You can also blow reinforced doors down with ease, making it the only other Multi-Tool weapon that helps you find resources.
5. Incinerator
You can’t obtain the Incinerator by normal means. It doesn’t have very high mining capabilities, but it can easily destroy any rocks and trees it comes across. As of right now, PC players are the only ones with access to the tool traditionally. This is what puts the Incinerator so high on our list. Otherwise, you can only get it if you currently already have it or know of someone else who already has it.
4. Neutron Cannon
Brain Blast! The Neutron Cannon is a little different from the above weapons since it doesn’t use projectiles. Instead, you charge it to release a huge wave of energy. You can use rapid fire, but it just does a lot less damage. When the ammunition lands, it deals short-range explosive damage. Since you don’t need to worry about projectiles, you won’t need to worry about ammo. You do need to be on the lookout for Carbon or Condensed Carbon, however.
3. Pulse Spitter
Three projectiles are better than one! The Pulse Spitter uses projectiles that follow enemies in a triangle formation. It fires quickly and requires a good grasp of the recoil if you want to use it effectively. Even if enemies are moving faster than you think you can hit, the Pulse Spitter will be your best friend. We felt that more specifically, this was a great weapon against flying creatures. As you upgrade it, you’ll be able to decrease the reload times as well as increase the magazine capacity.
2. Scatter Blaster
The Scatter Blaster made it so high on our list because we love spraying projectiles. It’s similar to a shotgun and like the Pulse Spitter, also hones in on enemies using a triangle formation. The difference between this weapon and a shotgun, however, is that it shoots eight shots at once. It’s best to use in close combat and for players who prefer to fight with their noses to their opponents. If the projectiles themselves won’t handle whatever you’re fighting, then the shrapnel surely will.
1. Blaze Javelin
The Blaze Javelin is just the best Multi-Tool weapon in all of No Man’s Sky. It’s best used from a distance, especially since it has a pretty long cooldown time. However, the sheer damage that it unleashes makes you forget all about that. It’s comparable to a sniper rifle and the further you are from your target, the harder the bullets hit. Like the Neutron Cannon, you’ll need to have a supply of Carbon or Condensed Carbon to keep it charged. At a full charge, you’re looking at 1,200 stat damage.
