Tinashe’s ‘Nasty’ Y2K Inspired Lip Look (2024)

[bright upbeat music]

Hey, what's up, Vogue?

This is Tinashe, and I'm gonna walk you through

my travel skincare, and my everyday on-the-go look.

So first thing I'm gonna do is a little cleanser.

This much on the skin.

My skincare routine has definitely evolved over the years,

I'm not gonna lie, I've always just kind of had

really good skin, like, thanks Mom and Dad,

so I really didn't try for a lot of my life.

So I'd say I didn't really develop a skincare routine

until I was like 25.

So first we're gonna do this little baby serum.

Isn't she so cute?

A few on my forehead, a few right here.

The reason why I kinda started doing a skincare routine

is just because, you know, I'm not getting any younger,

we wanna make sure that we prevent wrinkles,

that we stay moisturized.

Next step, we have another serum,

this one is a little vitamin C.

[bright upbeat music]

Last step for the skin care routine

is this little moisturizer,

again, like a finger of moisturizer is enough.

[bright music]

Let's move on to the makeup.

Okay, so this is the foundation that I use,

it's L'Oreal True Match.

I feel like I don't need a lot of heavy coverage,

so, this one is pretty sheer,

and it matches really nicely.

[bright upbeat music]

I did a lot of acting when I was young,

a lot of just stage productions, different things like that.

One show I remember in particular, I did this show

for Cartoon Network, it was called Out of Jimmy's Head,

and in that show, that was probably the first time

that the makeup artist did like fun makeup on me.

I think that was around the time

where I first started experimenting

with doing my makeup myself,

but I learned a lot of tips just from observing.

When I became a music artist, I basically had

to do my own makeup 99 percent of the time.

I was doing my own makeup for photo shoots,

for all sorts of things, you know.

Even today, I do my makeup for my shows most of the time.

Next thing, I'm gonna do a little bit of concealer,

I like this one from Urban Decay.

[bright upbeat music]

The best piece of advice that I've received

from someone in the music industry

was actually from Madonna, the queen herself.

I was at a party, I think I was a little lit,

I was like, Madonna, do you have any advice for me?

She said, Never compare yourself to anyone,

and don't take sh*t from anyone.

And I think that's really great advice,

so I try to live by that every day.

[Tinashe laughing]

The next thing that I'm gonna do

is go in with a little contour,

so, I've got my bronzer right here.

Put some here on my forehead.

Cheekbones, ooh, that was a little much,

we'll go back and blend her out.

[bright upbeat music]

Sometimes I feel like I just need some shadow

to kinda pull this area together.

Boom.

So, yeah, that's it, that's my contour.

So, I have a really simple brow routine,

I just use one pencil, this is little Chanel.

[bright upbeat music]

The front of my brows are way thicker

than the back of my brows,

so it's really kinda just defining this line here,

through there,

boom, boom, through there,

I kinda have like a hole in my eyebrow right here,

for some reason.

I'm pretty loyal to my few items that I love,

but, I will get some, you know,

tips from the girlies on TikTok, shout out to to the Tok,

made Nasty such a success.

Do you wanna know, actually, a fun fact

of how I wrote that song?

So I got this necklace made, it says Nasty,

for Christmas, because I kinda have this like

nickname persona in my mind that I'm like Nasty Nashe,

so I get this made, and I'm like driving

to the studio one day, and then all of a sudden,

I start thinking, Hm,

what should I write a song about today?

I know, I should write about this necklace

that I just got made, so then, you know, it makes sense.

And I literally just went in the studio that day

and wrote a song called Nasty,

like off the top of my head.

I'm using this blush, this is like my favorite color,

it's like kinda peachy, it's warm.

I may be blush blind, I'm like one of those people

that like wears so much f*cking blush.

But, I stand by her, I think she just looks so good,

and I just look so healthy and awake and alive.

I also like to put a tiny bit like right here,

gotta get the nose, okay, cute.

So the album's coming very soon, I'm so excited about it,

I've been working on it for a long time,

but you know, it's got a variety of songs

that I think people are really gonna love.

So the last thing that I pretty much do

is a little bit of mascara.

I think the best makeup advice that I've ever received

is that it starts with skincare,

and it starts with moisture,

so I feel like when you look healthy,

and your skin looks moist, like,

that's when your makeup looks the best.

I also have like a little water spray,

whenever I feel like it's not looking, like,

as good as it could look.

[bottle hissing]

Like, I'll just give it a spritz

when I'm like, Oh, we need some more,

we need some more dew in there, you know?

Get me dewier.

I do like a little mascara on my bottom lashes,

that's cute too.

The biggest difference between this and my stage makeup

is I really don't do much of an eye day to day, like,

I really like the natural, like, clean eye look,

but when I'm on stage, I put on like a thick lash,

I put on like sometimes colorful eyeshadow,

sometimes like a glitter eyeshadow,

like I really play with my makeup, when it comes to stage,

and then other than that, I keep it real simple.

Okay, last step.

[hands clapping]

I have a few different steps for this one,

because I like to, you know, blend the colors.

I've got two lip liners, 'cause you know,

you need your like outer line,

and then you gotta like kinda blend it in.

So, first we start with this guy.

[bright upbeat music]

[lips smacking]

Blend it a little bit.

I overline only the tiniest bit right there.

The next step is this pencil, which kinda just like

makes this liner a little less intense.

Kinda go over a little bit.

[bright upbeat music]

I love an early 2000s Y2K lip, I can't help it,

I grew up with those being my references.

I've got three lipsticks,

so first is like my main coat.

This is just general coverage, this is MAC.

It's also very matte, so I like to put this, this is YSL.

Adds a little bit of moisture so my lips don't feel too dry.

Then the last thing I wanna do

is brighten up right in the middle,

so then I use Butter Gloss.

I think if someone really wants to match my freak,

makeup wise, they need to use at least three lip products,

but like, five is ideal.

'Cause like, look at that, that's like perfect.

And then, if we really wanna get glossy,

like that depends on the day, that depends on the mood,

but like, this would be my gloss of choice.

Pew.

It's got a little lip plumper in there,

I like that little, I like the zing.

[upbeat music]

Voila.

Instead of a setting spray, I kinda use this Spritz,

SPF 50, on top.

Gotta get the chest, gotta get the neck.

Oh yeah, and then the very last thing, we have a fragrance.

This is from Glossier, I actually really love this scent.

Every time I wear this scent, men are like,

Oh my god, you smell so good.

You heard it here first.

[bottle hissing]

You heard it here first.

So this is the final look, I'm ready for a nice chill day,

gotta get a lot of stuff done.

Thank you so much for watching, I love you, Vogue.

[lips smooching]
